Biography

An "impact player" best describes Bishop Feehan's bowling ball halfback, Doug Dobson. Whether running, catching, or kicking the football, Dobson's versatility made him a potent offensive weapon for opponents to stop. Teaming with fellow captain and Hall of Famer, Steve Kelly, Dobson was Mr. Outside to Kelly's Mr. Inside in Feehan's wishbone offense. Compact, durable, and deceptively quick, Dobson's running style and stature were not unlike those of current NFL standouts, Emmit Smith and Thurman Thomas. However, it was his tremendous ability to do so many things well, including his role as a defensive back, that made him so valuable. In a career game against Barnstable his senior year, Dobson rushed for 102 yards and two TD's, kicked two PAT's and a Field Goal in what coach Paul O'Boy described as "one of the finest performances ever by any player at Bishop Feehan." In his last game on Thanksgiving vs Coyle, Dobson kicked two field goals of 27 and 39 yards which nearly provided the margin for victory until a last minute score by Coyle secured a dramatic win for the Warriors. Selected as an All Star kicker by the Sun Chronicle, it was noted, "in truth Dobson could be selected to almost any all star position." Above all, the intangibles of Doug Dobson's character and leadership are his most enduring legacy to Bishop Feehan football.
