Biography

The mid 60's were not the glory years for the Red Rocketeer football faithful. However the team bad some outstanding performers. Ron "Poet" Ouimet was a big strong two way starter during the seasons of 1964-1966.

Ouimet started at tackle on both offense and defense for the red and white for three years. He was described in a local newspaper article as being one of the best two-way lineman in the Bristol County League ... srrength and toughness were his trademarks. Offensively his quick attacking style made it very difficult for his defensive opponent to be a factor.

During the season of 1965 Ouimet anchored a defensive line that allowed Feehan, Coyle, and Stoughton less than 10 yards rushing in successive games. In a 35-13 win over Durfee the Chronicle praised Ron for having his strongest defensive game of the year.

Ouimet Co-captained the 1966 North Eleven which was decimated by injuries. An automobile accident after rhe first game sidelined 5 of North's starters for most of the season. As a result the ream struggled through eight straight losses. However, Ouimet rallied his teammates to salvage a dismal season. In one of the biggest upsets in Turkey Day History, North defeated Attleboro 19- 6, and "Poet" was outstanding on defense.

Ron Ouimet was also a stand out shot putter for the north track ream. He held the record in this event for more than 20 years until it was broken by New England Patriot lineman Chris Sullivan.
