Biography

The caption under the picture in The Sun Chronicle read: “T Scott Connelly - The “T” stands for “Touchdown”. Thomas Scott Connelly was, indeed, Mr. Touchdown as a three year letterman for the Shamrocks of Holcott Drive. In the fall of 1997, a tall skinny running back was “The Man” on a 9-0 Freshman Football Team. Then the tall skinny kid bulked up and became bigger, faster, and stronger while maintaining that great coordination. As Feehan football embarked upon the 21st century, Scott Connelly's slashing, explosive running style made him a threat every time he touched the ball..

At 6'3", 175 lbs, he looked more like a split end than a tailback. He had the soft hands, the versatility, and the skills of a receiver but also the toughness, the power, and resiliency of a fullback. This lethal combination accounted for many yards, many touchdowns, and many victories for the Shamrocks during Connelly’s tenure.

As a sophomore he burst on the scene by contributing over 300 yards rushing and threw a halfback option pass for a touchdown on Thanksgiving Day vs Malden Catholic.

Scott opened the 1999 football season at the Dartmouth jamboree with 107 yards rushing and two TD’s in just one half of football. In a wild shoot out with Coyle-Cassidy, Scott rushed for 95 yards on 17 carries and caught the two point conversion to win the game for Feehan. Against Xaverian, Connelly amassed 111 yards on 16 carries scoring on a 72 yard jaunt as well as a 22 yard scoring pass from QB Jim Petrillo. On Thanksgiving Eve, Scott rushed for an impressive 228 yards that included touchdown runs of 71 and 95 yards in another lopsided victory over Malden Catholic. As a junior he was recognized as a Sun Chronicle and EAC All Star for gaining 936 yards and scoring 14 TD s. This was just a preview of what was to come the following year.

Connelly’s senior gridiron campaign was the Feehan version of Sherman’s march to Atlanta. He led the area in scoring with 19 touchdowns, rushed for 1024 yards on 177 carries, and led his team to a Super Bowl berth against Rockland High School. A couple of highlight games featured a 158 yard effort vs Attleboro to include an 81 yard TD and a 175 yard effort and three TD’s vs Somerset.

Always the team player, when interviewed by the Sun Chronicle during Super Bowl Week, Connelly related: “Everybody clicks well together. We’ve been “Boyz” (Close Friends) since Freshman year. We all know what each other is capable of doing.” Some of these “Boyz” included Matt Maslen, Andrew Emerson, Jon Byron, Kevin Gay, Jeremy Ethier, and Alex and Joe Gasbarro. Once again Scott was recognized by local All Star teams but additionally was voted to the Globe All-Scholastic Team and the Mass Coaches All State Team.

Upon graduating from Feehan, Scott went on to Bentley University where he continued to play football all four years and was captain his senior year when they were Northeast 10 Champions. The Attleboro Area Hall of Fame welcomes “Touchdown” Scott Connelly.
