Biography

Bishop Feehan opened its 1977 football season with a young, inexperienced line. None, however, were younger than a rugged fifteen year old sophomore named Tom Moore. Nicknamed "Trunks" because of the size of his treelike thighs, Moore was as solid as seasoned oak in his defensive tackle position. Early injuries and inexperience yielded to increasing strength and confidence as Moore anchored a shamrock defensive line that won three of its last four games against Case, Dighton Rehoboth and Stang.

As a junior returning defensive tackle, Moore was a key defensive stopper in Feehan's miraculous 7-6 upset over a heavily favored undefeated Attleboro squad that featured the Hall of Fame backfield duo of Dubuc and Lepper. Against rivals Coyle (12-3) and Stang (15-6) Moore was the proverbial "immovable force" that paved the way for Feehan's diocesan supremacy.

As a 5'8" 230 senior, Moore became an iron man on offense as well as defense. Surprisingly quick for his stout frame, Moore, Feehan's fire hydrant with legs, recorded a key sack and safety against Seekonk to preserve 18-12 Feehan victory. Against Attleboro, once again it was more of Moore. One local scribe described Moore's defensive playas "instrumental" in holding a explosive Attleboro running game in check as Feehan secured the Elks Trophy for a second straight year 14-6.

Tom Moore's defensive prowess could be summed up in the statistic nine of the ten teams that Feehan played that fall, scored one touchdown or less while he was in the lineup. Tom was rewarded for his efforts with his selection to the Sun Chronicle All Star team and the SE Mass. Div. II All Star team.
