Biography

An outstanding leader on and off the field during Attleboro's early days of football, four year starter Ted Thomas established the role model for all future AHS football players. At 180 pounds, Captain Thomas was a big, strong single wing offensive center and a tough, durable defensive linebacker. Ted was also cons1dered a player-coach by Coach Ray Grayson, who assigned him the task of calling the offensive and defensive signals.

In a 1927 6-6 tie with Fall River, Thomas was cited for his exceptional game at center with his accurate long snaps, keying the AHS single wing offense. Later, in an 18-0 loss to Taunton, Thomas' tackling was the feature of the game. In fact, the durable All Bristol County center played the entire 1927 season without being taken out once.

Thomas' greatest football challenge came on Turkey Day, 1927, when an inspired Blue and White team earned Attleboro's first ever victory over North Attleboro. Ted's pre-game talk so aroused and charged his teammates that they came out and whalloped North, 32-0.

Following a year at the University of Massachusetts, Ted played 10 more outstanding years with the Jewelery City Redheads.
