Biography

Anthony Sherman graduated as the most prolific offensive performer in Red Rocketeer football history, but the numbers only begin to explain why he is being inducted in his first year of eligibility. Anthony distinguished himself throughout his high school career as a true gentleman and a positive ambassador for North Attleboro HS and the community. His determination and work ethic in the classroom and on the playing field ade him an exceptional role model for his peers and future NAHS studentathletes. According to North coach Don Johnson, “Anthony Sherman is the epitome of what it means to be a teammate, a leader, and a winner.”
Sherm started on both sides of the ball for the better part of three seasons, helping his teams achieve a four-year record of 32-7-1. As a bruising fullback in North’s Wing-T offense, Anthony established NAHS career records in rushing yards (2,512) and total offense (rushing and receiving combined for 3,175), in addition to scoring 47 TDs (38 rushing) and 284 total points. He led the team in rushing as a sophomore, receiving as a junior, and both rushing and receiving as a senior. Anthony was equally impressive as an inside linebacker, where his career totals include 150 tackles, 46 assists, 9 sacks, 5 fumble recoveries and one interception. Anthony also holds the distinction of being the only three-time Balfour Trophy winner in the history of the NAHS vs. AHS Thanksgiving game.

As a senior, co-captain Anthony Sherman’s play earned him the top honor in Massachusetts High School football – Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year, 2006. He was also selected as the Offensive MVP of the Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association Super 26 All-state Team, and he was a Shriner’s All Star, a Boston Globe and Boston Herald All Scholastic. Locally, Sherm was a three-time Hockomock League and Sun Chronicle All Star, and he was named Hockomock League Offensive MVP as a senior.

Anthony’s favorite Big Red football memory was North’s victory over Mansfield on a snowy Saturday that snapped their long winning streak. In the game, Sherman ran for one TD, threw for another, and also caught a TD pass. Anthony also cites the important lessons of “loyalty, toughness and discipline” as important values that have helped him in college and in the pros. In addition, Anthony said: “I learned how to be coachable, how to play with passion and how to respect the game of football while playing at North High.”

After graduation, Anthony accepted a full scholarship to the University of Connecticut, where he excelled at fullback and on special teams, served as co-captain as a junior and senior, and led the Huskies to a berth in the 2011 Fiesta Bowl versus the University of Oklahoma. This past spring Anthony was a fifth round selection by the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League. He is currently their starting fullback and a special teams player.
