Biography

After only a few games into the 1995 season, Cliff Sherman and his coaching staff noticed Geoff Raby’s work ethic & determination, and inserted him into the defensive line.  Once on the field the hard-nosed Raby followed up a solid sophomore campaign with two more outstanding seasons at offensive right guard and along the defensive line.  Geoff also contributed on special teams, whether corralling a kick returner or accurately long snapping in punt formation.

The 5-11, 210 pound Raby had great technique and was always dependable when the Blue & White needed a few yards for a first down or touchdown.  When tough yards were needed in crucial situations, Coach Sherman often relied on the tandem of Raby and Nick Bosh along the Bombardiers right side of the line to run behind.  Geoff was also athletic enough as a pulling guard when the Bombardiers looked to attack the sidelines, leading the way for Hall of Fame runners Jason Baker and Tim Slowey.  Like most linemen at any level the dominating Raby did not get the headlines, but the coaching staff and Raby’s teammates understood the importance of having him on the field at all times.  In Geoff’s first game during his junior season, AHS knocked off defending Eastern Mass Division 1A Super Bowl Champ Barnstable 18-15, thus laying the ground work for an eventual season-ending Division 3A Super Bowl berth against a powerful Marshfield team.

Co-captain Raby was a force at defensive end, leading the Blue & White in sacks with 5 while containing his opponents’ efforts to sweep outside during his senior season.  In beating Bishop Stang 19-13, AHS ran for almost 300 yards behind the strong play of the experienced Raby and his line mates.  In thrashing Dartmouth 41-0, the defensive line of Raby, Bosh, Rob Mulhearn and Hall of Famer Mike Haynes allowed a mere 18 rushing yards in the first half, and 37 total for the whole game in route to the shut out.

Raby earned Eastern Athletic Converence and Sun Chronicle All-Star honors at the end of his junior and senior seasons.  Geoff later continued his football career at St. Anselm College where he was elected captain for four years.  Officer Raby lives in Nashua, NH with is wife Meghan, where he is a member of the Nashua Police Department and Bomb Squad.
