Biography

Tough, competitive and talented, the football career of the 5’11” 180 pound Brett Poirier was one of opportunities seized.  Although he possessed a tremendous throwing arm, Poirier spent the majority of his junior year playing linebacker and backing up Hall of Fame quarterback Nate Cote on 1st year Coach Matt Lanagan’s 7-3 team.

As a senior co-captain, Poirier won the starting quarterback job and proceeded to have a season that every high school athlete can only dream about.  In his first varsity start against powerful North Attleboro, Poirier completed 4 of 8 passes, one for a touchdown, and then held the winning field goal in a dramatic last second 17-15 victory.  He later scored Feehan’s only touchdown with 45 seconds remaining in a 7-0 victory over Bishop Stang, and against city rival Attleboro he threw two touchdowns and held the winning FG with: 23 seconds remaining in the thrilling 17-14 victory.  He continued his aerial assault with a 19 yard TD pass vs. Sharon and against rival Dartmouth he rushed for 34 yards, passed for 78, and scored the winning touchdown in a 24-7 win.

Against EAC leader Somerset, Poirier displayed a toughness and tenacity that legends are made of. He strained his knee in practice and was questionable for Saturday’s game.  However, he insisted on playing and promptly went 5 for 6 passing for 151 yards in the first half alone, leading Feehan to a decisive 21-6 victory. Poirier’s grit prompted Coach Lanagan to state “Poirier is one of the toughest kids I’ve ever coached.”  Brett went on to throw a total of three TD passes in victories over Durfee and Archbishop Williams.

Poirier and his Shamrock teammates concluded a perfect 10-0 season as they defeated rival Coyle Cassidy on Thanksgiving Day.  Poirier carried 10 times for 49 yards, completed 7 of 11 for 107 yards and led his team to a decisive 35-12 victory, giving Feehan the EAC championship, at that time its best season ever, and Feehan’s first ever Super Bowl appearance against Mansfield.  Spanning his junior and senior seasons, Brett helped lead Feehan to a state best 17 wins in a row!!

Today, Brett is an officer in the Framingham Police Department.
