Biography

The 1941 Attleboro High School football team still stands at the top of the list of AHS's greatest teams as the only undefeated and untied team in the school's history, and right end Walt Nyzio was the glue that held together the many pieces of coach Howard Tozier's puzzle. Loaded with talent and with a new All Star emerging each week, Walt Nyzio's consistently tough, aggressive style of play set the example for his inexperienced teammates. A two year starter who played in every game, Walt was the type of team leader who led by example by going all out on every play and beating his opponent on both sides of the ball.

Hall of Fame coach Howard Tozier also recognized Nyzio's toughness and asked the 5' 10" 156 Ib junior to move into the right tackle spot where he had to battle with much bigger opponents to clear the way for Attleboro's single wing running game. An outstanding all around athlete, Nyzio was a devastating blocker at the line of scrimmage but with the speed to get downfield ahead of the backs. To take advantage of Walt's good speed and athletic ability, Tozier moved Nyzio to the right end slot for the '41 season where he proved to be an outstanding receiver and lead blocker for Attleboro's Hall of Fame backfield.

Although he might have been known to many as the "other end" who played opposite Hall of Farner Bob Powers, Walt Nyzio was known to his teammates and coaches as a tough, aggressive, steady, and durable team leader.
