Biography

For an Attleboro football program coming off a Super Bowl season and having just graduated their starting quarterback, Nick McNamee was the perfect fit to take the helm.  Nick always performed at a high level whether on offense as a quarterback, in the defensive backfield, or as a kicker on special teams.  Nick is most remembered for his outstanding accomplishments behind center during his junior and senior seasons, but he was also held in equally high regard as a defensive back.

McNamee opened up the Bombardier’s 1997 season at Barnstable by completing 15 passes for 242 yard and three touchdowns, while scampering for one other score in a disappointing 30-28 loss.  Nick also displayed his strong arm and quickness by throwing for 164 yards and two TD’s and rushing for another in leading AHS to a 41-0 victory over Dartmouth.

As an experienced and confident senior QB, Nick led his Bombardier’s to the EAC Title and the 3rd Division 3A Super Bowl appearance in school history.  Nick led a Bombardier dominant offense which averaged just under 30 pts per game and finished the season 8-3 (5-0 in EAC), while defensively McNamee’s hard hitting approach resulted in 36 tackles and (5) interceptions.  Coach Cliff Sherman recognized McNamee as “the best cover man we had.”

Surrounded by weapons such as Hall of Famers Tim Slowey and Seth Lopes, McNamee displayed his accuracy and intensity by throwing three TD’s and intercepting a pass as the Blue & White defeated New Bedford 28-6.  In the 1998 Thanksgiving Day game against North Attleboro Nick was the recipient of the Balfour Offensive Player of the game award, throwing for 192 yards while completing 15 passes.  In two years as a quarterback the talented McNamee passed for 2,980 yards and 26 TDs.

McNamee was honored by both the Eastern Athletic Conference and The Sun Chronicle for his outstanding play during his junior and senior seasons.    McNamee also joins his father, Joe McNamee (NA Class of 1975) in the Attleboro Area Football Hall of Fame.
