Biography

A clever defensive back who picked off five interceptions-a slashing type runner who scored 11 TD's-an accurate placekicker who booted 15 PAT's in his senior year-Mike Ingram was the ultimate weapon on a team that was one of Paul O'Boy's best. When selected to the Pawtucket Times All Star team, Ingram was characterized as "one of the best athletes on the field, no doubt about it." The Sun Chronicle concurred by writing "Ingram is the best athlete on the field." As a member of the tough Southeastern Mass. Conference, Bishop Feehan faced such formidable opponents as Barnstable, Falmouth, and New Bedford, but the team was equal to the task. With QB Paul Humphrey and FB Mark Jones, Ingram led a devastating ground attack that ran the Wishbone to perfection. In a hard fought victory over Barnstable, Ingram broke a scoreless tie with a 50 yard bolt for a TD. In that game he rushed for 129 yards on 14 carries. Against Somerset he scored three TD's in a 27-9 win, and, later in the season, ran 11 yards for a score and kicked three PAT's as Feehan defeated cross-town rival, Attleboro 34-14. Ingram was an unselfish player who easily could have been the featured back in a different type of offense. With his great sense of anticipation and coordination, he was all over the field as a defensive back. As a captain, Mike's somewhat reserved nature let his actions do the talking-and they did-very clearly!
