Biography

Durability, versatility and toughness: those are the terms that describe the play of Bishop Feehan's Peter Grundy. Brother to another Hall of Famer, the late Mark Grundy, Peter was one of the Shamrock's most reliable performers during the 1974 and 1975 seasons.

As a junior, Peter a two-way performer, played every interior line position on a club which recorded a 6-4 slate. On defense, he was a nose guard on a team that registered three shutouts and held four other opponents to a single touchdown each. One of his finest performances occurred against Attleboro, when his aggressive play forced the Bombadier center to send two erratic snaps over his punter's head. leading to a 12-0 Feehan win.

As a senior, Peter played defensive tackle and nose guard, leading the Shamrocks to three more shutout wins. The team held four other opponents to a single touchdown or less and allowed but six points per game enroute to a 7-3 record. Hw was devastating against Attleboro, chalking up 11 tackles and two sacks as Feehan beat the Bombadlers for the second straight year, 14-6.

A Sun Chronicle All Star at offensive guard and an All Southeast Conference selection at tackle, Peter never missed a day of practice for four years and played his entire senior year with a painful back bruise. He was an outstanding amatuer boxer and an inspiration to the young athletes who patronize his father's gym in Central Falls.
