Biography

Because he was so good, they called him "Superman" but he was really just an ordinary kid with extraordinary ability. Brian Kelley was not just the best athlete in his class, or even in his school. Brian Kelley was one of the best high school athletes in the nation. This was primarily due to his setting track records in the state decathlon and later the national pentathlon. Fortunately for Bishop Feehan, Brian also played football where his versatility and athleticism brought about great success for the Shamrocks. Paul O'Boy described him as "the greatest athlete we've ever had at defensive back." True to form, "Kell" stopped many a drive by the opposition with pass deflections or interceptions. In his junior year, Brian had two interceptions in preserving a 19-19 tie against a powerful New Bedford team. He also made timely picks in wins over Stang and Somerset that year. But certainly not a one dimensional player, Kelley was also a threat offensively where he scored five TD's, kicked 16 PAT's, and threw four TD passes in his senior year. In a memorable game against previously undefeated Falmouth, Kelley threw a TD pass, kicked two extra points, and had an interception. Against cross-town rival Attleboro, Kelley picked off two passes scored a TD, and booted two PAT's in a big Shamrock win. His most outstanding performance that season, however, was against Durfee when he ran for 186 yards and two long TD's, kicked three PAT's and had an interception. Upon graduating from Feehan, Brian went on to Penn State where he continued to star in track and field and still holds some school records at this prestigious university to this day.
