Biography

During the 1968 and 1969 seasons Mark Fenton was an important part of the Red and Whites football resurgance. New Coach Bob Guthrie was looking for a few tough talented kids to lead his team and Fenton was one of those who stepped forward. The rangy 168 pound junior was an excellent pass receiver and a punishing blocker. Mark was a prime target of many Mike Kapitan passes and an important part of North's drive to a 1968 Hockomock League Championship.

Fenton's fine two-way performance as a junior earned him the respect of his temmates as he was named captain of the 1969 Rocketeers eleven. The experience and confidence he gained as a junior enabled Mark to emerge as a dominant force on defense as a linebacker. The Sun-Chronicle described him as a punishing tackler and one of the finest all around players in the area.

Mark is best remembered for his fine acrobatic catch against Attleboro in 1968. With the game winding down and North trailing by a touchdown Fenton made a leaping catch in the end zone which would have tied the game. Unfortunately for North he was ruled out of bounds as the game ended.

Mark was recognized in both his junior and senior years as a Hockomock League All-Star and a Sun-Chronicle All-Star. After graduation he attended the Naval Academy and currently resides in Wrentham.
