James Weir, a 2018 graduate of Attleboro High School, was a key player for the Attleboro High School football team, known for his toughness, consistency, and ability to make plays when the team needed him most. As a linebacker and tight end, he contributed on both sides of the ball and quickly became a team leader.
In his senior year in 2017, James came back from an early-season injury and made an immediate impact. He led the team with over 100 tackles and added two touchdown catches on offense. His speed and aggressiveness allowed him to make many tackles for loss, disrupting opposing offenses and setting the tone for the Bombardiers’ defense. His efforts earned him recognition as a Hockomock League All-Star, a HockomockSports.com Hock 5 Linebacker, a Sun Chronicle First Team selection, and a Boston Herald High School Football All-Scholastic selection. He also earned the Hockomock League Scholar-Athlete award, showing dedication both in the classroom and on the field.
Coach Mike Strachan said, “James Weir was one of the best linebackers in the Hockomock League. He was our team leader for the 2017 Bombardiers.” Some of James’s memorable moments include a playoff game against Xaverian where he recorded multiple tackles for loss, and a Thanksgiving Day interception against North Attleboro, which earned him the Balfour Trophy.
Over his four years at Attleboro, James was known for being reliable and versatile. He could step in wherever the team needed him and consistently made plays in big moments, like his first varsity touchdown reception from Tyler McGovern in the 2016 home opener against Cumberland.
After high school, James attended Bates College, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience in 2022. He now applies the same focus and determination he showed on the field to his work as a Senior Business Analyst at Moderna.
James Weir is remembered at Attleboro High as a hard-working, aggressive, and dependable player who led by example. His contributions to the Bombardiers, both on and off the field, have left a lasting impression and continue to be a point of pride for the program.
