Matt Everton was the quintessential quarterback during his time at Bishop Feehan. Standing tall at 5’9, Everton proved that greatness isn’t measured in inches, but in heart, drive, and relentless competitive fire. A dual-threat quarterback with rare poise under pressure, he possessed the unique ability to both dissect defenses from the pocket and devastate them on the move. His presence on the field was magnetic— commanding the huddle, owning the moment, and elevating everyone around him.
Upon taking the reins as QBI in 2013, Matt quickly showed that he had all necessary traits to become a great player. Mentally, he possessed a high football IQ, quick decision making, endless poise, and was always fully prepared for that week’s opponent. Athletically, he demonstrated a rocket for an arm, touch and accuracy, as well as providing Feehan with a true run/pass option at the position. His work ethic was uncanny for the time. Teammates marveled at his early morning workouts, meticulous diet, film room obsession, and constant pursuit of mastery of his craft.
Matt always saved his best performances for the biggest stages. On Thanksgiving with an EAC championship on the line, Matt stood tallest. His two touchdown, dual threat performance through the air and on the ground led the Shamrocks to a 35-28 victory. This game mirrored Matt’s career. He had huge games against North Quincy, Somerset, and Milford where he continued to show his flash with his arm and legs accounting for multiple touchdowns and over 150 yards in each game. His biggest game, however, came against Walpole and their top ranked defense. Down three scores early, a battered, bloodied, and bruised Everton led the fellas back with his valiant effort and top notch play throwing for a career high in both yards and touchdowns that game.
Matt’s career finished with three all- conference picks on the gridiron as well as being a two-time All-Sun Chronicle selection. Not just known for his prowess on the football field, Matt was a rare three-sport athlete for the Shamrocks also competing in basketball and baseball. Matt was awarded the Elks Scholarship as well as the Captain Kyle R. Van De Giesen Scholarship. Upon graduation, Matt was a 4 year member of the Sacred Heart Pioneer football program, earning himself a scholarship as he transitioned to receiver. After college, Matt joined the United States Marine Corps and currently resides in Charleston, South Carolina with his wife, Morgan.
